Advanced Therapies for Ocular Surface Disease and Skin Rejuvenation

IPL + RF + LLLT

At Opticology Eyecare, we offer more than just eye exams. We’re excited to introduce our cutting-edge Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Radio Frequency (RF), and Low-Level Laster treatments (LLLT), a revolutionary approach to enhancing both the aesthetics and health of your eyes. This non-invasive technology helps to tighten skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and restore a youthful, refreshed appearance around the eyes.

Beyond cosmetic benefits, these treatments also support long-term eye health by stimulating the eyelid’s oil glands, improving tear quality, and relieving dry eye symptoms. By restoring balance to your tear film, IPL and RF therapy not only enhance comfort but also help protect your eyes from chronic irritation and inflammation. Our LLLT stimulates cells to produce more collagen, a crucial protein for tissue repair and regeneration. More collagen means plumper, healthier-looking skin, and wrinkles fade.

Experience the benefits of brighter, healthier-looking eyes while promoting lasting ocular wellness. Book your consultation today and discover how this innovative treatment can transform both the way you see and the way you look!

Intense Pulsed Light ( IPL )

Dr. Louia performing IPLWhat Is IPL Therapy?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive light-based treatment used to relieve dry eye symptoms caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). It delivers pulses of light to the skin just below the eyes to improve the health and function of the oil glands in your eyelids.

How IPL Helps With Dry Eye

  • Unclogs Glands: The light gently heats the skin, melting thickened oil that is blocking the meibomian glands.
  • Reduces Inflammation: IPL targets and reduces abnormal blood vessels that contribute to inflammation near the eyes.
  • Improves Tear Quality: By restoring proper gland function, IPL helps the eyes produce a more stable tear film that evaporates more slowly.
  • Supports Other Treatments: IPL enhances the effects of warm compresses, lid hygiene, and artificial tears.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Before the procedure: Your eyes will be protected with special eye shields, and a cooling gel is applied to the skin under your eyes.
  • During treatment: A handheld device delivers light pulses to the treatment area. You may feel a warm sensation or a mild snap, similar to a rubber band.
  • Duration: Each session takes about 15-20 minutes.
  • Treatment plan: Most patients require a series of 3-4 sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments may be recommended.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
  • Uses broad-spectrum light to reduce inflammation in the eyelids.
  • Targets abnormal blood vessels (telangiectasia) that contribute to chronic inflammation.
  • Helps liquefy thickened meibum in the meibomian glands.
  • Kills bacteria and mites (Demodex) that contribute to blepharitis.
  • Improves the function of meibomian glands, leading to better tear film stability.

Radio-Frequency (RF)

Dr. Barger performing RF procedureWhat Is RF Therapy?
Radio-Frequency (RF) therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses controlled heat to improve the function of the meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the oil layer in your tears. This treatment is especially helpful for patients with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) and evaporative dry eye.
How RF Therapy Helps With Dry Eye
  • Melts Blocked Oil: RF energy warms the eyelids from the inside out, liquefying thickened oil that clogs the meibomian glands.
  • Stimulates Gland Function: The heat helps “wake up” sluggish glands, encouraging healthy oil production.
  • Improves Eyelid Health: RF tightens skin and supports collagen production, which may improve eyelid structure and reduce laxity that contributes to dry eye.
  • Reduces Inflammation: The thermal effect promotes better circulation and a reduction in chronic eyelid inflammation.
What to Expect During Treatment
  • Preparation: Your provider will apply a gel to your skin to ensure comfort and effectiveness.
  • During the session: A small handpiece delivers radio-frequency energy to the area around your eyes and eyelids. You may feel a warm, soothing sensation.
  • Duration: Most sessions last about 20-30 minutes.
  • Treatment plan: Typically performed as a series of 3-4 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments may be recommended.
Radio-Frequency (RF)
  • Uses gentle heat to stimulate collagen production and subtly tighten the skin around the eyes.
  • Helps unclog blocked meibomian glands by liquefying meibum.
  • Improves circulation in the eyelid area, reducing inflammation.
  • Can help with mild skin tightening and cosmetic improvements.

Diamond 360

What Is Diamond 360?Dr. Aelvoet performing Diamond procedure

Our Diamond 360 tool is an advanced skin resurfacing and exfoliation treatment designed to refresh and revitalized your complexion.

How does Diamond 360 work?

  • It uses 360 degrees rotational diamond-tipped applicator to gently remove dead skin cells, smooth rough texture, and improve overall skin tone and radiance – making your skin look brighter and refined. We begin most treatment sessions of IPL and/or RF with a Diamond 360.
What to Expect During Treatment
  • During the treatment, the precision diamond head glides over the skin, exfoliating the surface while improving texture and preparing your skin to better absorb serums and other treatments.
  • The procedure is non-invasive with minimal downtown, and most patients feel only mild sensation during treatment.
  • Many see noticeable improvement in texture, tone, and smoothness after just one session, with enhanced results as part of a tailored treatment plan.

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Pam performing LLT TherapyWhat Is LLLT?
Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is a gentle, non-invasive in-office treatment designed to relieve dry eye symptoms by addressing their underlying causes. LLLT uses specific light wavelengths to reduce inflammation and boost the function of the meibomian glands (responsible for producing the oily layer of your tears) and lacrimal glands (which produce the watery layer of tears). This leads to improved tear quality and more comfortable eyes throughout the day.
How does LLLT work?
  • Wavelengths of Light: LLLT uses specific light wavelengths that gently penetrate the skin around your eyelids. This light energy stimulates the meibomian glands, helping to unclog them and promote better oil production, which prevents tear evaporation.
  • Reduces Inflammation: By reducing inflammation around the eyes, LLLT improves the overall function of the meibomian glands, addressing one of the most common causes of dry eye.
  • Enhances Tear Production: LLLT enhances the production of healthy tears by improving both the oil and water layers of the tear film, leading to long-lasting relief.
The device used during treatment is equipped with infrared light and various LED lights, including red, blue, and yellow, green, some common wavelengths used in treatment. Each color targets specific depths of cellular responses on our skin, which can treat a variety of skin and vascular conditions:
  • Blue – Targets bacteria with anti-microbial/anti-inflammatory. Effective for chalazion, hordeolum and styes.
  • Pink – Combines blue & red to treat blepharitis.
  • Yellow – Enhances skin tone and reduces redness, such as rosacea.
  • Green – Improves hyperpigmentation
  • Infrared Light – Enhances vasculature and generates heat to aid in the expression of meibomian glands.
What to Expect During Treatment
  • Non-Invasive & Painless: LLLT is painless and does not require direct contact with the eyes. Patients often find the procedure relaxing, and it only involves short exposures to light.
  • Quick & Convenient: Each session typically lasts around 15 minutes, with no downtime required afterward. You can return to your daily activities immediately after treatment.
  • Bright Light & Warming Sensation: During the procedure, you may feel a gentle warming sensation and notice bright light, but these are completely safe and part of the treatment process.
